An Introduction to your Call Committee

Allison Moser    Allison Moser

I’ve been a member of Grace for twenty years, and prior to that I was affiliated with Grace as an LSA student. My husband is Deck, and he owned a sign shop in Boone for 15 years. Deck is an artist and now has a web-based business. Carly and Taylor are our children. Carly is a rising sophomore at Watauga High School, and Taylor a rising 8th grader at Hardin Park.

I spend most of my time working on a history book about the Lutheran Churches in Watauga. I also volunteer at the Children’s Playhouse teaching music. At Grace, I’m involved in middle school ministry, the Internship Committee, and church history.

Phyllis Humphrey    Phyllis Humphrey

I have been a member at Grace since 1976.  I have served on the Council several times over the years and at the present time I am serving on Council.  I have been a coordinator for the Grace Calling Team, I have been on the Stewardship Team and was on the Call Committee for Pastor Tim.  I am currently on Altar Guild and a Council liaison for the Arts and Faith Team Ministry.  I was secretary of Grace when Pastor Bob Young was here.

My father was in the Air Force so we travelled all over the US and outside the US.  My parents are from Nebraska so our family is big Husker football fans through and through.  I am the Administrative Manager with Allen Wealth Management and have worked there for the past 29 years.

John Smyre  John Smyre

I have lived in N.C. all my life.  I was born in Greensboro and moved to Charlotte at age 11.  I was confirmed at Ascension Lutheran in Charlotte;  married Lucy in 1968 and lived in Charlotte until 1977 when we moved to Matthews with our two children, Chad and Ashley.

We were charter members of Messiah Lutheran in Matthews and were active there until we moved in 1983 to Fayetteville.  There, we joined Christus Victor Lutheran where I served on Church Council for 16 years, including three terms as President.  I also served on two Call Committees during that period.

I retired from Piedmont Natural Gas and moved in August 2008 to West Jefferson.  We were happy to find such a wonderful new church family here at Grace and joined in February 2009.  I am currently serving as lector and usher at the 8:30 service.

I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. My family were members of Christ Lutheran Church in Duquesne. As a young man, I moved to N.C. I met my wife Marjorie while we were in school. We have been married 27 years and live in Vilas. We have two adult children, Candace and Aaron. I work at Watauga Medical Center as an RN in the Emergency Department. Our family have been members of Grace Lutheran for over 20 years. I also volunteer with the Cove Creek Fire Department as a First Responder. In my spare time, I enjoy being active by hiking, gardening and working on the family farm.
