Day Camp Offered this summer!
What is Agapé Day Camp?
Vicar Lisa’s Internship Project is to bring Agapé Day Camp to Grace Lutheran Church and the High Country Lutheran Coalition this upcoming summer …. So what is Agapé Day Camp?
Agapé Kure Beach Ministries runs a summer program called Day Camp. Day Camp is a Monday-Friday, six-hours-a-day program for rising 1st-5th graders led by Agapé counselors and hosted by our congregation. The counselors travel to Boone to lead the campers in songs, games, Bible Studies, nature activities, crafts, and Biblically-based as well as silly skits. They bring camp to the kids! During the Agapé staff's stay in our community, the congregation provides lodging, showers, and meals beginning Sunday evening through Friday lunch for the Agapé staff and they provide the quality staff and program!
During Grace's week of Day Camp (June 27-July 2), a team (usually 4-6) of trained Agapé summer counselors arrives at our congregation on a Sunday afternoon/evening. The Agapé staff unloads their equipment, eats dinner, meets with the church’s Day Camp site coordinator, receives camper information and begins planning out Monday's schedule. The trained summer staff leads 5 days (Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) of Day Camp with our congregation and the other congregations of the High Country Lutheran Coalition here at Grace. At the end of each day, they will meet to plan the next day's activities based on our campers’ needs. Throughout each day of Day Camp, volunteers from our High Country congregations will be checking the campers in and out as well as preparing the daily snack. Helpers from our congregations may also be called upon to help guide a group of campers, aid in craft activities, or even be a character in a skit. At the end of the Day Camp day on Friday, the staff will finish packing up all equipment and will travel back home for their end-of-the-week-all-staff Staff Meeting.
Thanks to an award from the Edwin F. Troutman and Family Foundation, Agapé Day Camp is being offered at a reduced rate! Payment must be received with both the "Summer Day Camp Registration Form" and the "Agapé Kure Beach Ministries Health History Form." Both can be found at the bottom of this article, on the Youth Board at the bottom of the steps leading up to the Sunday School classrooms, or by request from Vicar Lisa.
